Our philosophy on giving and money
Here, at Kinderhook, we do not usually pass an offering plate: although we encourage you to be faithful in your tithes and offerings, we believe this is strictly something between you and God. Here's our philosophy on money matters:
We believe that
- God doesn't need our money nor does He want us to give it grudgingly - "God loves a cheerful giver..."(2 Corinthians 9:17)
- God is the owner of all that we possess : "Everything comes from You and we have given You only what comes from Your hands" (1 Chronicles 29:13, 14NIV).
- A tenth (tithe) belongs to God, and we glady return it to Him as did Abraham, Jacob and the children of Israel (Genesis 2:16, 17; 14:17-20; Hebrews 7:1-8; 1Corinthians 12:12, 13, 27, 28).
- God does not dictate how much we should give in offerings, but always blesses both those who return their tithes and those who are generous in their offerings (Malachi 3:10 NIV): "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house. Test me in this,...and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it."
We encourage you to put God first (Matthew 6:33) and give your tithes as an expression of your faith and trust in Him. You'll want to give a generous offering proportional to His blessings too. You will be blessed as a result!
